May The Fourth Be With You Ep V: A Celebration Of The Music Of Sci-Fi
Not so far in the future, in a galaxy not so far away…
A Celebration of the Music of Science Fiction was planned, featuring songs about aliens, robots, lasers, time travel, and everything in-between; soundtrack themes from movies; and campy pop tunes played by bands in movies. It was all fair game.
Several brave, brave souls stepped up to join in on this venture…
Congenial Crime – Congenial Crime is not an illegal act. Congenial Crime is an original rock band out of Charlottesville, VA that blends elements of metal, classic and new rock into a powerful and melodic wave of crushing sound. Years of experience across generations lay the foundation for this wily band of brothers whose sound can best be described as a chainsaw in a washing machine being trampled by a herd of buffalo. However, the vocal styling, rhythm of the guitars, and inspired lead work crafts a unique and awe inspiring experience.
The Chuggernauts – Charlottesville, VA based fast paced and hard hitting trio of punk rock pirates, the Chuggernauts know how to throw a punk rock party!
The Vailix – Formed in 2014, The Vailix is a female fronted hard rock band from Charlottesville, VA, who use music, light, and art to tell stories based on the sci-fi graphic novel series “The Tales of the Cloud Ocean”, created by guitarist/songwriter Rob Richmond. Powerful vocals soar above riff-heavy guitars, grinding bass, and thunderous drums as they turn narration and images into songs that drive just as intensely as the story from which they spring. The Vailix is a unique, and heart-pounding experience from start to finish!
Funktional Electrik – Funktional Electrik is a fully improvised funk-fusion band featuring Eric Cope (Tequila Mockingbird) on guitar, Carter Thompson (Tequila Mockingbird, Ragnarockers) on drums, Trevor Pietsch (Ragnarockers, Two Ton Trapezoid, Choose Your Own Adventure) on bass, Phil West (Ragnarockers) on Guitar, and Sky Young on saxophone.
Cooler Heads – Your favorite drink in hand as the sun dips low, and all you hear are crickets and laughter between songs. It‘s that same accessible, cool vibe that Cooler Heads bring to every live show. A rhythmic trio punching through the noise and calming your soul. Lead singer and guitarist, Reed Dibeler, writes songs to remind us to take time to breathe, and remember what life is all about. Dibeler’s acoustic rock sound is rhythmically driven and dynamically controlled by the oh so tight and groovy Cooler Heads rhythm section. Bassist, Tim Castellani, adds that perfect splash of color while drummer, Corrina Hanson, keeps the canvas taught and controlled.
Shagwüf – Charlottesville quartet featuring folk-rock princess Sally Rose on bass plays a rambunctious style of swamp-rock, funk, and heavy hitting blues numbers with attitude. With Pete Stallings of Lost Indian and Secret Ninja on guitar, Pablo Oliveri of Pablo & the Dregs and The Findells on drums, and Ivan Christopher Christo of Jaguardini on keys, Shagwüf is a jigsaw of the Cville scene just trying to keep the cool in rock n’ roll.
This Hollow Machine – Spider Lilies bandmates Chad VanPelt and Tom J. Lynch join forces to create noisy industrial & techno music ranging from bass-heavy club bangers to experiments in glitch noise and minimalism.
Dogfuck – Dense bizarro rap from Phil Green of Cog Diss fame and glory. Fuck, not fucker.
Little Graves – Little Graves is an intense power trio that juxtaposes influences from punk, post-punk, grunge, prog rock, psychedelia, and noise with musique concrete, samples, and field recordings. The members of Little Graves hail from up and down the east coast and cut their teeth in the NY and Providence music scenes.
