Oginalii / Shagwüf / Breakers
Venue: The Ante Room
Address: 219 W. Water St., Charlottesville, VA 22902
Oginalii – One minute psychedelically lulling you into a druggy head-bob, and the next ripping into sludge rock, Oginalli (Cherokee for “my friend”) features vocals that at times are jarringly pretty- a pleasing juxtaposition to their dirty chugging guitar- and at other times unnervingly raw and loud.
Shagwüf – Charlottesville quartet featuring folk-rock princess Sally Rose on bass plays a rambunctious style of swamp-rock, funk, and heavy hitting blues numbers with attitude. With Pete Stallings of Lost Indian and Secret Ninja on guitar, Pablo Oliveri of Pablo & the Dregs and The Findells on drums, and Ivan Christopher Christo of Jaguardini on keys, Shagwüf is a jigsaw of the Cville scene just trying to keep the cool in rock n’ roll.
Breakers – A rigorously-calculated, riff-driven, proto-punk alt-rock group out of Charlottesville, VA that deliver an acerbic, infectious sound reminiscent of The Strokes and Queens of the Stone Age. It’s a realized compositional style spray-painted with simple, straight forward New York rock n’ roll. “Debussy meets alt rock” – Anonymous fan
